The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon or UNIFIL is a peacekeeping mission established on 19 March 1978 by United Nations Security Council Resolutions 425 and 426, to confirm Israeli withdrawal from Lebanon which Israel had invaded five days prior, restore international peace and security, and help the government of Lebanon restore its effective authority in the area. The mandate had to be adjusted twice, due to the Israeli invasion of Lebanon in 1982 and after the Israeli withdrawal from Lebanon in 2000.
In January 2019, there are 11,155 deployed of which 10,118 Contingent Troops, 830 civilians and 207 Staff Officers of which Malaysia contributes 200 Administrative staff and patrol/quick reaction team of 160 which including commandos and special forces though Malaysian Battalion 850-6 (Malbatt 850-6)
