A Commemorative Service was held at the State War Memorial in Kings Park, Perth, Western Australia on Saturday 27 August 2016.
A good crowd of Malaysians resident in Western Australia, veterans from the Emergency, Konfrontasi, Thai Border and East Timor, along with people who were evacuated from the Malay Peninsula during World War Two, braved a very cold and wet winter’s day to both commemorate and celebrate MERDEKA Day.
Lieutenant Commander Michael Doncaster, CSM, RAN, a student at the Malaysian Armed Forces Staff College in Kuala Lumpur and a M-ADAA member, was in Perth and took the opportunity to attend the service, along with his wife, Ms. Sandra O’Keefe.
The service was a fitting mark of respect for Malaysia’s National Day and for all of those who paid the supreme sacrifice in their efforts to secure Malaysia’s independence and sovereignty. The service was followed by a delicious Malaysian meal served by members of the Malaysian community in Western Australia.
