Australian Peacekeepers Day – 14 Sep 2017

A national commemorative service to mark the 70th Anniversary of Australian peacekeeping will be held at 10:00am on Thursday, 14 September 2017, at the new Australian Peacekeeping memorial on Anzac Parade in Canberra. A dedication ceremony for the new memorial will be included in the commemorative service.

Over 90,000 Australian peacekeepers – military, police and civilian – in more than 60 United Nations and other international peacekeeping missions since 1947. Sadly 14 Australians lost their lives.

In Malaysia, MALBEC 850-5 battalion left the country to join the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) at the Subang air base on September 07, 2017. Around 215 personnel as well as representatives from the Brunei Armed Forces flew off from the airbase. A total of 850 personnel were deployed for the peacekeeping mission in Lebanon.

We thank all peacekeepers for their service. Wear your Blue Helmets with pride. ‘In the Service of Peace’.
