His Excellency Rod Smith PSM hosted a M-ADAA function for guest of honour Air Chief Marshall Mark Binskin AO, Chief of Australian Defence Force.
In attendance was General Tan Sri Raja Mohamed Affandi bin Raja Mohamed Noor, Chief of Malaysian Defence Force; General Dato’ Seri Hj Affendi bin Buang RMAF, Chief of Royal Malaysian Air Force; Lieutenant General Dato’ Abdul Halim bin Hj. Jalal, Chief of Staff MAF HQ; Air Marshall Geoffrey David Shepherd AO (Rtd), Chief of Royal Australian Air Force 2005 – 2008; Dr Angela Macdonald PSM, Deputy High Commissioner and Rear Admiral Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Thana K Thanabalasingam RMN (Rtd), Chief of Royal Malaysia Navy 1967–1976.
Also in attendance was Captain Badar Rhudin RMN, representing Admiral Tan Sri Panglima Ahmad Kamarulzaman bin Hj Ahmad Badaruddin RMN, Chief of Navy and Vice Admiral Dato’ Anuwi bin Hassan RMN, Deputy Chief of Navy.
Over 100 M-ADAA members were there to welcome the CDF and many stories were exchanged about the long lasting friendship between the two countries. Chief Petty Officer Ban Ne Low RMN (Rtd) was an Engine Room Artificer Apprentice at HMAS NIRIMBA in 1969, along with 12 of his HMAS NIRIMBA colleagues.
His Excellency gave a rousing speech outlining our common bond and friendship stretching back to World War II, together with more current affairs challenges. Both CDF’s then gave speeches reinforcing the strong state of our relations today.
Wing Commander Paul Webb, Commanding Officer – 19 Squadron RAAF was unanimously voted ‘loudest shirt’ for the function.
